PHARMACY FERIGO - CORVARA

In the heart of the Dolomites, Ferigo Pharmacy in Corvara operates in one of South Tyrol’s most renowned tourist destinations. Throughout the year, the pharmacy alternates between quieter periods and seasons characterised by a strong influx of skiers, hikers and tourists from all over the world.

After the positive experience gained at the La Villa location, the Ferigo family decided to automate the pharmacy’s warehouse in Corvara as well, choosing a Pharmathek solution equipped with the SINTESI automated dispensing robot and Pharmaload automatic loader, to make daily operations more efficient during periods of highest activity.

The Corvara location also features an elegant glass panel that allows customers to observe the robot in operation, turning automation into a distinctive element of the pharmacy.

This choice also reflects the pharmacy’s identity: combining the welcoming atmosphere typical of a mountain destination with a modern organisation capable of providing an efficient service even during the busiest periods.

We asked the owner, Dr Renzo Clement, to share his experience.

HEAR FROM THE PHARMACIST

Dr Clement, what are the main challenges of running a pharmacy in a tourist destination like Corvara?

Working in a tourist destination mainly means being able to provide quick answers to patients, even during the busiest periods. We have many international customers who arrive without their medication, perhaps because they lost their luggage during their journey. In these situations, it is essential to quickly identify the equivalent medicine and provide the most appropriate advice.

Why did you decide to install an automated dispensing robot also at the Corvara location?

The decision to automate the warehouse came from the need to optimise logistics processes and make daily work more efficient.

In a setting characterised by strong seasonal fluctuations, we needed a solution capable of supporting the team during periods of higher demand and maintaining order in daily operations.

The automated dispensing robot has allowed us to eliminate many repetitive, low-value activities, such as searching for and rearranging medicines in drawers or manually checking returns and expiry dates, giving pharmacists more time to focus on their relationship with patients.

After your experience with the La Villa location, what aspects led you to choose Pharmathek again for Corvara?

We chose to rely on Pharmathek again because we already knew the value of the solution and the company’s way of working.

For this location as well, we evaluated several aspects: the speed and precision of the robot, but above all its ease of use. People with different levels of familiarity with technology work in the pharmacy, and it was essential to have a solution accessible to the entire team.

In addition, Pharmathek’s membership in the Th.Kohl Group allowed us to manage the renovation and automation project with a single point of contact.

What benefits has the robot brought to your daily work organisation?

Today, the robot is an integral part of the way we work. It allows us to simplify daily operations, keep the warehouse organised and standardise many activities.

It keeps the warehouse organised and standardises many activities, an important advantage especially when onboarding seasonal staff.

New employees do not need to immediately know the warehouse organisation or remember where every product is located: the robot automatically identifies and retrieves the packages, making the integration of new colleagues much faster and more efficient.

During peak season, how does automation concretely support your work?

SINTESI speeds up our work and allows us to organise our time more effectively.

During the busiest periods, we can manage several activities at the same time, without having to constantly interrupt what we are doing to search for a medicine.

Thanks to automation, we can stay at the counter, assist customers and support the rest of the team with greater continuity.

Why did you decide to customise the robot also from an aesthetic point of view?

I wanted the robot to become an integral part of the pharmacy’s identity.

Many customers, especially international visitors, expect a traditional environment when entering a mountain pharmacy. Instead, they are pleasantly surprised to find a modern, technological and well-organised pharmacy. It is an element that immediately attracts attention and conveys an image of innovation.

After many years, how would you describe your relationship with Pharmathek?

A relationship of trust has developed.

We installed the SINTESI automated dispensing robot in 2018 and throughout these years we have always found availability and quick support whenever we needed assistance.

Knowing that we can rely on timely support is something I consider extremely important, especially when working in a pharmacy where patient service must always be guaranteed.

Would you recommend automation to a colleague working in a tourist destination?

Yes, without a doubt.

In pharmacies facing strong seasonal peaks, automation helps manage workloads more effectively, keeps the warehouse organised and makes procedures more efficient.

It is a concrete support that allows the team to handle even the busiest periods with greater confidence.
